Researchers of UNIDEMI awarded by Autoeuropa

28-10-2014

Autoeuropa launched a technological challenge for the development of a non-destructive method able to detect defects in laser brazed joints preventing destruction of about 6 cars per year. The solution presented by Profs Rosa Miranda and Telmo Santos was selected from a set of 14 proposals submitted by national and international groups and was awarded a prize. The winner solution of FCTUNL professors aims at implementing a dedicated system designed on the basis of eddy currents and Alternating Current Potential Drop Measurement (ACPDM), increasing the consistency of the technique and allowing to identify all types of defect morphologies possible to occur in the laser welds without destroying one single car. This represents a significant value for Autoeuropa.
