MiMa – fun and less conventional ways of learning Mathematics

Math can be thatched to young’s in a more fun and non-conventional way, using new methodologies capable of transforming this discipline into something attractive, seductive enhancing self-confidence.

The FCT NOVA, in partnership with the University of Perugia (Italy), the Mathematikum Museum (Germany), the Eotvos Lorand University (Hungary) and the University of Sheffield-Hallam (UK), will coordinate the national event of announcement of the European MiMa project - Mathematics in the Making held on 02 September at the auditorium of the Library of the Faculty of Science and Technology from NOVA University at 17:30 pm.

This project, initiated in December 2013, counts with the participation of over 500 Portuguese students of the 1st cycle, aged between 8 and 10, and respective teachers of the schools:

Agrupamento de Escolas Agostinho da Silva - Casal de Cambra;
Agrupamento de Escolas Nun'Álvares – Seixal;
Agrupamento de Escolas nº 4 de Odivelas (alunos de Ensino Especial);
Colégio Salesianos de Lisboa – Lisboa;
Colégio do Vale – Almada;
Escolinha do Campo – Azeitão;
Externato "O Barquinho" – Almada;
Jardim Escola João de Deus de Alvalade – Lisboa;
Jardim Escola João de Deus da Estrela – Lisboa; 
Jardim Escola João de Deus de Odivelas – Lisboa; 
Jardim Escola João de Deus dos Olivais - Lisboa.

To accomplish this end the MiMa project focused on the development of activities in the area of mathematics intending to engage students in their design, implementation and evaluation appealing to the creation and use of a common methodology agreed between the different partners.
