NOVA University distinguished in the Leiden ranking

The NOVA University of Lisbon is the first Portuguese institution above the global benchmark average in the Leiden ranking (MNCS = 01.03%; reference value of 1.00), leading for the second consecutive year at national level, the impact of scientific production (number of times a publication is cited).

In the indicator PPtop10%, NOVA rose this year to 9.8% (9.6% in 2015), leading in Portugal in the areas of Life, Earth and the Social Sciences and Humanities, and getting in ex-aequo with the University of Minho in the field of Biomedical and Health Sciences.

Prepared annually by the Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University, the list measures the impact of the scientific production of more than 750 universities worldwide using for this two different indicators: MNCS (average number of citations standardized by scientific area and year) and PP (top 10%) (share of publications of a university that is among the 10% most cited in the world).

For the Rector of the NOVA University of Lisbon, Antonio Rendas, "this way, it is possible to verify the constant quality of NOVA's scientific production and analyze its impact globally, demonstrating the potential of our researchers, as well as creating value and international recognition to this reference institution.”
