Tribute to Professor Miguel Telles Antunes

FCT NOVA and its Department of Earth Sciences (DCT) promoted in the afternoon of December 7th, in the Library Auditorium, a Tribute Session to Professor Miguel Telles Antunes evocative of the 40 years of the "Earth Sciences" Journal.

During the session, in addition to a lecture on the "Course of a life dedicated to the institution, teaching and science" and various testimonies of colleagues and disciples, will be unveiled a watercolor authored by the Architect José Pedro Martins Barata, given by Professor Telles Antunes, which reproduces the cover and back cover of the first volume of the "Earth Sciences" Journal.

Professor Miguel Telles Antunes was born in Lisbon, graduated in Geology and has a PhD in Geological Sciences both from the University of Lisbon. In the preparation of the thesis, he received grants from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for internships at the “Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris”; “Faculté de Médicine de Paris”, British Museum, “Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique”, “Musée Royal de l'Afrique Centrale” (Belgium). He was Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT / UNL) from 1974 to July 2003, when he retired. During his career, he was awarded numerous prizes and other distinctions, as stated in his biographical note.
