The Master in Computer Science admits candidates to is 2nd cycle.
The 4th and 5th years of the Master in Computer Science (MIEI) allow students, who possess a Bachelor ’s degree in Computer Science, or related trainee, education in Design Engineering certified with a Master degree in Computer Science with the E2 level of accreditation by the Ordem dos Engenheiros.
The MIEI prepares qualified specialists to develop design activities, project leadership, and innovation. An important component of the Master trainee is the preparation of a Master's dissertation, an individual work of research and/or development exploiting the knowledge acquired throughout the course. This original work was specially designed to be developed in an academic context or in an academic-business collaboration.
Computer Science is the technical and scientific discipline that allows design and build enterprises information systems - Google, Facebook, flight controllers aircraft, iPod, weather forecasting systems, computer games, the media, the Cloud computing, web applications, image processing, multimedia and telecommunications services.
Information and computer technologies are the most important infrastructure of contemporary society support. They represent areas in constant growth and high employment, combining technical challenges of engineering with multidisciplinary creativity creating new business opportunities.
Computer Engineers are responsible for the design and construction of several systems playing a vital role in society, industry, services, transport, telecommunications, health, environment and arts and leisure.
MIEI prepare Computer Engineers to participate in the built of systems and future information technologies.

To the selected students may be asked to fulfill a supplementary study plan corresponding a maximum of 18 ECTS, depending on the suitability of their degree.

The Department of Informatics is a pioneer institution in advanced education and research in Computer Science in Portugal, and has already graduated thousands of informatics engineers and computer scientists. We currently host around 1200 students enrolled in various programs and courses.
Several of our academic staff are associated to the development of computer science and IT in Portugal, for instance, in the first national connection to the Internet in the 80s, in the graduation of the first PhD degrees, and in the development and consolidation of research and innovation in informatics and computer science.
