This is the first time that FCT NOVA coordinates an Interreg Europe project.

The "CAPonLITTER - Capitalising good coastal practices and improving policies to prevent marine litter" counts with the participation of 9 partners from 7 different countries (Germany, Spain, France, Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria and Portugal) and € 1.6 million.

The project aims to promote good practices and sustainability policies aimed at reducing marine litter from recreation and tourism in European coastal areas. Through a process of regional cooperation and sharing of experience and mutual learning, partners will explore ways to improve their regional and local policies and promote the implementation of best practices with the active participation of all stakeholders.

In all regions, CAPONLITTER will result in a number of coastal communities committed to "ZERO-Waste", "ZERO-Waste" beaches and beach supports, "ZERO-Waste" harbors and festive and coastal "ZERO-Waste" sports events.

This project will be coordinated by Professor José Carlos Ferreira of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of FCT NOVA, researcher at MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Center, in close collaboration with the Research and Innovation Accelerator (RIA).
