The CancerCareTech project, led by Cláudia Quaresma, professor and researcher at NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT), was one of two winners of the 2024 Medical Research Grants – Childhood Cancer, awarded by the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) and LIONS Portugal.

The project aims to develop an integrated platform to monitor the motor rehabilitation process of children with brain cancer, seeking to minimise the sequelae caused by the disease and its treatments, and to significantly improve the quality of life of paediatric patients.

Although initially only one grant was to be awarded, the high quality of the applications led to the distinction of two research projects, each receiving €15,000 in funding. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 26, at 11:00 a.m., at Hotel Vila Batalha, in Leiria.

This distinction represents a significant recognition of the scientific excellence and social impact of the research developed at NOVA FCT, contributing to the advancement of paediatric oncology research in Portugal.

The annual awarding of these grants results from a longstanding partnership between the Portuguese League Against Cancer and LIONS Portugal, aimed at strengthening support for the development of scientific research in paediatric oncology — a crucial area for successfully fighting the disease and improving the quality of life of children with cancer.
