Catarina Cidade do Carmo, a PhD student at the Department of Materials Science of NOVA FCT and athlete at Clube Pedro Pessoa, has recently achieved remarkable results at the Portuguese Athletics Championships.
At Portugal’s most prestigious national athletics event, Catarina was crowned national champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, winning her first senior title in this discipline and outperforming the entire national competition. Just one day later, she also secured the silver medal in the 5,000 meters, reaffirming her position among the top female athletes in the country.
These achievements follow another outstanding performance by the student-athlete. On May 25th, Catarina Cidade do Carmo set a new personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:10.63) in Brussels, marking the best Portuguese performance of the year.
