Francisco Ferreira, Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering and Principal Investigator and coordinator at CENSE – Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research at NOVA FCT, has been awarded the Medal of Merit by the League of Friends of Setúbal and Azeitão (LASA).
This distinction acknowledges Francisco Ferreira’s academic, scientific, and civic achievements, whose contributions have been highly relevant to the development and recognition of Setúbal.
With an extensive body of publications in the fields of air quality, climate change, and sustainable development, Francisco Ferreira also plays a prominent role as an environmental activist. He currently serves as President of ZERO – Sustainable Earth System Association, reinforcing his commitment to environmental protection and to promoting solutions for a more sustainable future.
This tribute highlights not only the scientific and academic impact of the NOVA FCT professor and researcher but also his civic and environmental engagement, widely recognized at a national level.
The award ceremony took place during the official session commemorating Bocage Day, the City, and the Municipality of Setúbal, on September 15. The session was held in the Main Hall of the Setúbal City Council, in the presence of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Setúbal.
