João Afonso Vilalonga, a PhD student in Computer Science at NOVA FCT and researcher at NOVA LINCS, has been awarded the PhD Rising Research Star by the FOCI (Free and Open Communications on the Internet) community 2025.
This award aims to recognize and encourage emerging talent in the field of Internet freedom, highlighting the scientific contributions of promising young researchers who, through innovative work and ideas, have made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in this domain.
The distinction was granted to João Afonso Vilalonga in recognition of his research on innovative solutions for privacy protection and Internet censorship circumvention, one of the main research directions of his doctoral work.
