NOVA School of Science and Technology stood out in the 17th edition of Geração Depositrão in the Setúbal district, leading the collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), batteries and accumulators among the participating schools.

With a total collection of 8,989.5 kg of waste — corresponding to an average of 1.06 kg per student — NOVA FCT ranked 7th nationwide among nearly 500 schools involved in the initiative. This result reinforces the School’s commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness, promoting responsible practices within its academic community.

Geração Depositrão, promoted by ERP Portugal in partnership with the Blue Flag Association for Environment and Education (ABAAE), aims to raise awareness among students and the school community about the correct management and disposal of hazardous and electronic waste, highlighting the importance of recycling and the circular economy.

This year, 34 schools from the Setúbal district took part, collecting more than 21 tonnes of waste. NOVA FCT demonstrated the crucial role of higher education in mobilising for environmental causes and in setting an example for future generations.
