Pedro Casinha, a student at the NOVA School of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCT), was distinguished by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with the rank of Officer of the Order of Merit during the 2025 Olympic Celebration, held by the Portuguese Olympic Committee at SUD Lisboa Hall. The decoration recognises the athlete’s exceptional contribution to the prestige of Portuguese sport.
Alongside this honour, Pedro Casinha was also among the personalities recognised by the Portuguese Olympic Committee, which awarded the Portuguese Canoeing K4 500m team the Sports Excellence Award. Together with Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista, the NOVA FCT student delivered a historic season: after being crowned European champions on 21 June, the team went on to win the world title on 22 August, establishing themselves as the top crew of the season.
