Américo Alves, an Electrical and Computer Engineering student at NOVA FCT, has been selected in the latest edition of the Affiliated Ph.D. Programs of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal partnership, securing a PhD scholarship in advanced areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
Under this programme, Américo Alves will develop a joint doctoral path between NOVA FCT and Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on signal processing, wireless communication, adversarial machine learning and network resilience, strengthening scientific collaboration between the two institutions.
“I hope to contribute original knowledge to my field and build a strong research network between both institutions,” says the NOVA FCT student.
The scholarships, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, include the possibility of a research period of up to one year at Carnegie Mellon University, combining advanced training with research experience in an international environment.
Created in 2007, the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program aims to promote collaboration between academia and industry and to deepen academic ties between Portugal and the United States of America, fostering cutting-edge ICT research with strong economic and social impact.
