Davide Scarso, faculty member of the Department of Applied Social Sciences (DCSA) at NOVA FCT, has been elected General Coordinator of the Interuniversity Centre for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT), a joint research unit of NOVA FCT and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
The CIUHCT has established itself as a central space in the international debate on the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach that crosses circulation, appropriation, and innovation — a trilogy that structures the study of how scientific knowledge develops, transforms, and diffuses across different cultural and historical contexts.
With a consolidated academic background in Philosophy of Science, Davide Scarso holds a PhD in Philosophy (Epistemology and Philosophy of Science) from the University of Lisbon (2008), with prior training in Philosophy from Università degli Studi di Verona and in Cultural and Social Anthropology from Università degli Studi di Padova. He has developed research on topics such as the Anthropocene, artificial intelligence, "big data", and the relationships between science, technology, and society, also exploring dimensions of epistemology, neuroaesthetics, and scientific imagery.
Upon assuming the coordination of CIUHCT, the Professor emphasizes the commitment to strengthen the center's role as a reference in the critical analysis of the history of science and technology, promoting dialogue between philosophy, sociology, and science and technology studies, and consolidating NOVA FCT's presence in this internationally relevant scientific domain.
