NOVA FCT launches initiative to demystify STEAM fields among high school students

05-03-2026

Between January and early March 2026, NOVA FCT held six in-person sessions of the NOVA FCT MATCH program, a new initiative that has already reached 696 students from the 10th to the 12th grade from several secondary schools.

Developed by the NOVA FCT Ambassadors — groups of students and faculty members from the School — the program aims to demystify the STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), bringing young people closer to these disciplines through practical activities, demonstrations, and open dialogue sessions.

With this initiative, NOVA FCT seeks to foster interest in scientific and technological areas and to support students in making informed decisions about their academic and professional futures, while showcasing the more than 20 bachelor’s degrees offered by the faculty. These fields have a direct impact on society and the world — from sustainability and technological innovation to health and computer science.

The first sessions of the year confirmed the participants’ enthusiasm and curiosity, showing that NOVA FCT MATCH is successfully achieving its goal of making scientific knowledge more accessible, inspiring, and engaging for the new generations of scientists and engineers.
