08-06-2026

Vasco Mendes once again stood out in the national university sports landscape by winning, for the fourth consecutive year, the University National Orienteering Championship title. This remarkable achievement reinforces his dominance in the sport and consolidates a path of excellence representing NOVA.

As NOVA’s sole representative in the competition, the student-athlete demonstrated his high competitive level, adding another milestone to an already distinguished university sports career.

The competition held additional significance, as it served as a qualifying event for the National University Team that will represent Portugal at the World University Orienteering Championship, scheduled for July in Vila Real.

Over the past few years, Vasco Mendes has represented NOVA in several University National Championships across Orienteering, Athletics, and Trail Running. Among his notable achievements is an impressive 10th-place finish at the European University Orienteering Sprint Championship. He was also recently selected as one of the student-athletes to represent the University at the latest Sports Merit Scholarship Awards ceremony.

Both a student and faculty member at NOVA FCT, Vasco Mendes embodies the highest values of university sport: commitment, excellence, dedication, and a spirit of perseverance.
