On July 30, at 2:30 p.m., the inauguration ceremony for the NOVA FCT’s Dean for the 2026-2030 term took place in the Fencing Hall of Colégio Almada Negreiros, on the Campolide Campus.
Professor José Júlio Alferes thus continues the leadership of the School that began in 2022, now serving a second term at the helm of the largest organic unit of NOVA University Lisbon.
"The first term brought many internal and structural changes. There was major transformation, with improvements across roughly 28 buildings on Campus, including the construction of new residence halls. These changes were essential to lay the groundwork for the second term, which will focus on building on what has already been achieved. We want to be a leading School at the European level in the Sciences and Engineering, standing out through innovation and the connection between teaching and research. Moreover, NOVA FCT is now part of the Setúbal NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics), giving us an increased responsibility toward the region. Count on us to strengthen NOVA's standing at the regional, national and international levels, and to reinforce partnership relations that will help strengthen the University," said the re-elected Dean during the ceremony.
NOVA's Rector, Professor Paulo Pereira, congratulated the re-elected Dean and acknowledged the central role NOVA FCT plays in the University's scientific and innovation ecosystem. "Among the various organic units of NOVA University Lisbon, the School of Sciences and Technology is one that particularly stands out for its reference-level work in its areas of activity," the Rector said during the session.
