On July 10, another edition of the NOVA FCT Summer School came to an end. For the second consecutive year, all places were quickly filled, bringing 68 students from the 10th to 12th grades to the Caparica campus, all enthusiastic about Science, Engineering, and Technology.
Throughout the week, participants had the opportunity to build a rocket using everyday materials, program game characters, understand how the brain works, control a drone, and take part in many educational and recreational activities that, for many, represented their first contact with research and academic life. In addition to the scientific programs, the experience was enriched with sports and creative activities that encouraged social interaction, cooperation, and teamwork.
Coming from all over the country, the students unanimously agreed that the week exceeded their expectations. Gonçalo, 16, came with eight classmates from the Algarve to take part in the initiative: “We decided to come together, and it was an incredible experience. I discovered that there are courses in robotics, and I became very interested.”
Leonor and Mariana, both 18 and from Pinhal Novo, participated after winning a school competition that combined writing and science: “We found this week very interesting. It helps clarify doubts and meet new people,” they shared.
The week included more than 40 activities promoted by departments, the Students’ Association, and student groups.
This initiative is part of a set of actions promoted by NOVA FCT to demystify and highlight STEAM fields, reaffirming the School’s commitment to promoting knowledge and encouraging young talent.
