Altran and NOVA LINCS launch "Big Data Academy"

The second edition of the "Big Data Academy" will take place in the first quarter of 2017, with a total of 10 scheduled editions.

Recognizing the growing importance of Big Data and the need to train specialists and strengthen skills in these areas, the consultant Altran, in partnership with the Department of Informatics and NOVA LINCS of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (FCT NOVA) launch the "Big Data Academy".

In its first edition, the "Big Data Academy" was attended by a group of specialists and professors from FCT NOVA for an intensive one-month program aimed at recent graduates in Engineering, namely Informatics, Electrotechnics, Physics and Biomedical Engineering. In this edition, 18 consultants from different areas took part, 14 of which were integrated into the consulting teams of Altran, in Lisbon and Porto.

"Altran's Big Data Academy is helping to develop the technical skills of today's students, who will be the professionals of tomorrow. Programs like this are crucial to create experts in emerging areas like Big Data Analytics who need to combine very strong technological knowledge with a deep understanding of their domains of use, "says Luís Caires, director of NOVA LINCS at FCT NOVA.

The action has been coordinated by João Moura Pires, researcher of the NOVA LINCS Knowledge Based Systems group, and also counted on the participation of researchers from the groups of Multimodal Systems (João Magalhães), Computer Systems (Nuno Preguiça and Sérgio Duarte) and Knowledge -Based Systems (José Alferes, Carlos Damásio, and Ludwig Krippahl), its collaborators, and Altran experts.
