Directorate-General for Higher Education Merit Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships are awarded annually by the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) to higher education institutions, with the aim of rewarding students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance.

Eligible students are those enrolled in bachelor's, integrated master's, or master's degree programs who, in the academic year to which the scholarship award refers:

Have passed all course units of the respective curricular year, corresponding to 60 ECTS credits;

Have achieved a grade average equal to or higher than "Very Good" (16 out of 20) in those course units.

The scholarship award is made regardless of the student's socioeconomic status, as established in the Regulation for the Award of Merit Scholarships to Students of Higher Education Institutions (in Portuguese only), ratified by Order No. 7761/2017, of September 4th (in Portuguese only). Since it was deemed necessary to regulate the application of this Regulation at NOVA University Lisbon, the Regulation for the Award of Merit Scholarships to Students of NOVA University Lisbon (in Portuguese only) was developed.

No application is required. Eligibility criteria are stated in the respective public notice, published annually.
