13-05-2015

250 students from the 7th to the 9th grade at Externato Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Cascais, fullfilled the “Hour of code” from Code.org with the help of the Informatics and Computer Science Department at NOVA. In this way, the Informatics department at NOVA joins the global success of Code.org in the dissemination of computer science as a base science that should be taken to all people.

The simple and playful way of introducing computing concepts allows for both children and adults to quickly learn the basics and start solving computing problems.

According to João Costa Seco, member of NOVA and the Software Systems area of NOVA LINCS, “Students were very enthusiast about this challenge. It is incredible to observe how quickly they are capable of capture the intuitions and reason about concepts like state and iteration, essential in the resolution of computing problems.”
