FCT NOVA hosted the final session of the "Teachers TryScience" Project, which took place on the morning of June 7 in the Agora Room.

There were 54 children and students and 28 educators and teachers who came to the campus of Caparica to present original works in the area of natural sciences, developed vertically by preschool, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, in a multidisciplinary perspective and integrating technology and communication in science across the whole project. These students and teachers came to represent the nine School Groups, the more than 50 educators and teachers and about 1,100 children and students who participated in this year's project.

Looking to encourage research and scientific rigor, teams were composed by educators and teachers, and their students and children, who were challenged to develop a vertical collaborative work project integrating science, communication and technology. Participants shared tasks among themselves, as true scientists, in order to carry out their work in an interdisciplinary perspective, of collaboration among all and in line with the curricular program of each involved level of education. The teams aimed to identify and characterize the biodiversity of an ecosystem and to understand the relationships between all its elements.

The Teachers TryScience Project is an initiative of IBM that aims to provide teachers, strategies and resources that promote the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the classroom. There is an online community accessible to teachers where they can find lesson plans to various educational resources within the theme.

FCT NOVA has integrated the "Teachers TryScience" Project in Portugal through the Lab.eLearning. This project, which began in the academic year of 2014/2015, is an initiative promoted by IBM Portugal and the Directorate-General for Education (DGE), with the support of EDUCOM.
