08-05-2024

On May 6, NOVA FCT welcomed a delegation from Austria as part of the General Framework for the Innovation System in Portugal.

Representatives from various Austrian research and development institutions had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with NOVA FCT's dynamic environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.

"It's a pleasure to showcase the research, development, and knowledge transfer ecosystem we've cultivated and to facilitate potential collaborations between our two countries," remarked José Júlio Alferes, Dean of NOVA FCT.

During the visit, participants were introduced to some of the 16 research centers and the Madan Parque spin-off incubator.

"Portugal sets an example in science communication. In a recent survey on public engagement with science, 66 percent of Portuguese respondents expressed interest, compared to only 27 percent in Austria," noted Christoph Meran, Austrian Ambassador in Portugal. "We've come here to learn from your experiences," he added.

The session featured speeches by Iris Filzwieser, President of ACR; António Bob Santos, Member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Science and Technology; Diogo Gomes de Araújo, Director of ANI; Martim Velez, Director of Programmes for Scaleups & International Growth at Unicorn Factory Lisboa; Pedro Amaral from IST - Instituto Superior Técnico; and Esther Maca, Commercial Counsellor of the Austrian Embassy.
