Inês F. Domingos and André Q. Figueiredo, PhD students in Biochemistry at the Department of Chemistry, were awarded the Best Poster Prize (ex aequo) at the 1st International Conference on Science Education (SciEDU 2025), held in Costa da Caparica from 4 to 7 May.
Their award-winning project, entitled “Doctor Vida: A Cost-Effective, User-Friendly Tool to Enhance Hands-On Learning in Science Education”, introduces an accessible and innovative solution aimed at improving the practical component of science education, promoting more autonomous and effective laboratory-based learning.
According to Hugo Santos, researcher and project supervisor, the tool “introduces new methodologies to reduce costs and foster student independence in the lab, drawing on digital tools, simulations, collaborative platforms, and interdisciplinary projects between academia and industry”.
The project was developed in collaboration with the company STAB Vida, reflecting the strong technological and collaborative dimension that increasingly defines modern scientific education.
This award marks the third Best Poster Prize won by Inês Domingos and André Figueiredo during their PhD studies at NOVA FCT, underlining the consistent excellence and impact of their work in the field of science education.
