"Broadening horizons" — this is how students and teachers describe the essence of EXPO FCT. NOVA FCT’s open day showcased the Campus, its degree programs, and the academic environment through more than 200 activities and experiences. From lab visits to the performance of a theater play, visitors were able to explore new fields of study and discover opportunities they didn’t know existed.

“It’s been a fun and interesting experience, especially because we get to meet students from other schools and learn about courses I didn’t even know existed,” said Ana Nunes, 17, who traveled from Covilhã to attend EXPO FCT. Tomás Costa, also 17, from Montijo, shared the same view: “It’s been really fun and interesting, because it’s helping me broaden my horizons.”

Teachers Filipa Batalha, Rita Marques, Fátima Soares, and Inês Proença, from Colégio Vasco da Gama, highlighted the importance of the event: “These visits are essential for students, as they expose them to new realities. It’s at this stage that they start thinking about academic and career options. They always come back really excited!”. This year, they brought 80 students to the event.

“We usually bring Science students, but this year an Arts student became fascinated after discovering the Conservation and Restoration degree — and wanted to come along too,” said António Ramos, a teacher at D. Dinis School in Lisbon.

Inês Ferreira, 16, came from Mafra on her own initiative. She wants to study Cell and Molecular Biology and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to explore NOVA FCT. “I’m really enjoying it and I’m considering applying here,” she explained.

This year’s edition also included a special session for visiting teachers, which featured the talk “Artificial Intelligence and Our Own,” delivered by Carlos Fiolhais, a professor at the University of Coimbra.

The 17th edition of EXPO FCT welcomed more than 5,000 high school students from all over the country, with the support of several institutional partners and leading companies from a variety of sectors, including: Allianz, Aegon Santander Insurance, Zurich, EY, The Navigator Company, Caetano Fórmula, Dacia Caetano Fórmula, Casais, EF - Education First, Alma Science, Old Spice, Gullón, Stab Vida, Win-Fit Me, EPAL, and SMAS Almada.
