PhD student in Engineering Physics wins Award

Patricia Borges de Sousa, PhD student in Physics Engineering, won the award for "Best PhD student oral communication at the First Doctoral Congress in Engineering (Symposium on Engineering Physics)" held at FEUP (Porto) on June 11 to 12 with the theme "15 K Liquid Hydrogen Energy Storage Unit for Space Applications".

This "power storage unit" is developed at the Cryogenics Laboratory, Department of Physics (LIBPHYS / CEFITEC) in collaboration with the company "Active Space Technologies" (Coimbra) as part of a funded project (500 k €) for the "European Space Agency "(ESA). This device is capable of storing 400 J between 15K and 16K and can integrate the cryogenic chain 50 mK-300K satellite Athena + set to be released in 2028.
