FCT NOVA students receive Silver Medal at the International Competition of Techn

The team formed by the Integrated Master on Electrical and Computer Engineering (MIEEC) student João Alarcão, and the PhD student on Electrical and Computer Engineering (PDEEC), Ricardo Madeira, both from FCT NOVA, and Kruthiga Gopalan and Ferdous Shaun of the ESIEE-Paris received the silver medal of the international iCAN2016 competition for the project entitled "The Water Rolling Probe ". The team was supervised by Professors João Pedro Oliveira and Nuno Paulino from the Electricial Engineering Department (DEE) of FCT NOVA and Prof. Elyes Nefzaoui from the ESIEE-Paris.

"The Rolling Water Probe" whose industrial prototype was shown in the competition consists of a small size so that it can be used inside pipes. Along the path, the probe allows the simultaneous collection of various physical parameters in order to assess the status of the pipe or the quality of water or air, depending on the medium. The developed modular structure is flexible allowing the use of a multi-parameter sensor developed under the project H2020 PROTEUS (http://www.proteus-sensor.eu/) funded by the EU.

The iCan2016, "International Contest of Innovation on Nano-Micro Technology" (http://english.ican-contest.org/), which was this year held in Paris from 6 to 8 July, is an international competition, highly competitive, in order to stimulate innovation in new applications for nano and micro technologies with direct application in the industry, and to promote contact between academia and industry.
