Professor Legatheaux Martins re-elected President of Internet Society Portugal

José Legatheaux Martins, lecturer at the Department of Information Technology (DI) of FCT NOVA, was re-elected for another term as President of the Internet Society Portugal. The Direction, now elected for the period 2019-2021, also includes Henrique João Domingos, Professor at DI.

The Internet Society (ISOC) is an international, not-profit association founded by the pioneers of the Internet, which intervenes in establishing open standards for the functioning of the Internet. ISOC also intervenes at social, political and civic level in order to maintain the Internet as an open, universal infrastructure and at the service of Humanity as a whole.

ISOC has national chapters, including the Portuguese Chapter of ISOC (ISOC PT) that develops activities with the same objectives at national level.

José Legatheaux Martins has been associated with the development of the Internet in Portugal since its inception, in the early 1980's, and was responsible for the country's first link to the global network.
