Rogério Puga Leal, Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at FCT NOVA, is one of the winners of the “Premio Santander de Investigación sobre Responsabilidad Social Corporativa”.
The winning work is entitled "Circular economy in Spanish SMEs: challenges and opportunities". This study was based on a survey made on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the province of Navarre and the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. Its novelty lies on the attempt to empirically explore the potential of the implementation of circular economy in these SMEs and the opportunities and barriers they encounter. The study was carried out in co-authorship with the researchers Marta Ormazabal, Vanessa Prieto and Carmen Jaca from the School of Engineering of the University of Navarra.
The prize is awarded annually by Banco Santander and aims to promote the generation and transfer of knowledge in the different domains of corporate social responsibility, being a requirement for admission the publication of the work in journals indexed in the Science Citation Index or Social Sciences Citation Index. This fifth edition was coordinated by the Cátedras Santander de Responsabilidad Social Corporativa of the Universities of Malaga and Castilla-La Mancha.
The award ceremony took place during the afternoon of July 9 in Murcia, Spain.
