International bootcamp wants to boost innovation in Atlantic region

On December 12, 20 experts met for the first international bootcamp that discussed the difficulties and opportunities of the blue economy in the Atlantic area countries.

The “Blue Economy in the Atlantic Area – the role of Academia, Industry and Policy Stakeholders for fostering innovation in the Atlantic Area” bootcamp, which took place under the European EMPORIA4KT project, happened after Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom have held bootcamps in their own countries where experts discussed the Blue Economy in their respective regions.

The Blue Economy represents all economic activities related to oceans, seas and coastal areas and includes sectors such as fishing, shipbuilding, tourism and ocean energy. Investments in innovation are needed to create new business opportunities and promote the sustainability of ocean and maritime resources.

EMPORIA4KT is an European Union Interreg Atlantic Area European Regional Development Fund  (ERDF)  projetct, coordinated by the NOVA School of Science and Technology, through the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, consisting of 14 partners from 5 European countries in the Atlantic Area. The project is working to establish links between academia, business and government with the purpose of promoting innovation and competitiveness in the Blue Economy in the Atlantic Area. These bootcamps are part of a custom project activities to support these goals.
