Bruce Adolphe's music conference closes American Corner Portugal's tenth anniver

The NOVA School of Science and Technology Library closes the celebration of the tenth anniversary of American Corners Portugal with a music conference entitled “Hear America Singing: Opera and the American Identity” by Bruce Adolphe, which will take place on December 6th, at 6 pm, at the Rectory of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The conference will focus on outstanding opera pieces and their relationship with the construction of the North American identity and culture; will last one hour and will be illustrated with audio and video excerpts. “Porgy and Bess” by George Gershwin, “Doctor Atomic” by John Adams or “Susannah” by Carlisle Floyd will be some of the analyzed operas. At the end, there will also be a block of thirty minutes to debate the most pertinent issues with the audience. The event, which is curated by pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, has free entry, however online registration is required.
