07-03-2022

The NOVA School of Science and Technology announces the launch of the first Master's programme in Portugal specifically focused on the topic of Maritime Logistics. Master in Maritime Logistics (MML) is the name of the International Master's programme that starts in the next academic year 2022/2023, in partnership with the Portuguese Naval School.

Bringing together a fundamental set of knowledge in the area of Logistics, with additional domains in Engineering and Industrial Management, this program will allow professionals in the maritime-port industry to develop relevant skills in the areas of research, innovation, techniques, digital and soft skills, including critical thinking and a proactive predisposition.

“The demand for the so-called Blue Skills is expected to increase next year, more significantly in the areas of maritime transport, shipbuilding and maritime transport services. Young professionals without previous specific training will, for example, have the opportunity to enter the maritime industry, which is expected to have a high demand for qualified specialists”, explains Helena Carvalho, Professor at NOVA School of Science and Technology and the Master's Coordinator.

The Master is aimed at professionals with a minimum of five years of experience who wish to acquire new skills in maritime operations and logistics, or even requalify their professional skills, training specialists with a high understanding, optimization and operation of intermodal logistics schemes, value and supply chain; or the creation of strategies that make it possible to face the complexity of the sector and anticipate changes in demand. Participants in this course will also have the opportunity to carry out an internship lasting three months, or implement a final project in one of the main companies in the maritime logistics cluster.

On the 18th of March, there will be a workshop in a hybrid model (face-to-face and virtual), which has two moments: the first, within the scope of the MarLEM (Maritime Logistics Engineering and Management) project, co-financed by the EU, aims to promote the Master's to potential candidates and national and European companies; the second, within the scope of the M4ML project, financed by the EEA Grants, enabling mobility actions to be carried out by MML professors, researchers and students between Portugal and Norway.
