João Silva, senior student of Biomedical Engineering and António Dias, student of Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA won the UNIRAID Adventure Award 2022.
"We drove a few thousand kilometres in these days and distributed about 150 kg of solidarity material to the most inhospitable and forgotten parts of the Sahara desert in Morocco. We managed to be finishers of UNIRAID 2022, crossing the finish line despite some unforeseen events along the way.", explain the students. "It was an unforgettable experience and we carry the kindness of the Moroccan people and the beauty of their country in our hearts," they add.
UNIRAID is a 9-day solidarity trip through the Moroccan desert in cars over 20 years old, aimed at university students from Portugal and Spain. The participants must complete 6 stages navigating with a road book, overcoming all sorts of obstacles, challenges and tests, with the aim of crossing Morocco from north to south and delivering 40 kg of solidarity material through the desert villages. Students from FCT NOVA have been participating in this adventure over the years.
The upcoming edition will take place in February 2023.
