Established the FCT NOVA Eco-Schools Council for the promotion of a more sustainable Campus

29-05-2023

The Eco-Schools project at FCT NOVA, as part of the School's commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation, held its first meeting on May 15, marking the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability within the academic community.

During the meeting of the working group, coordinated by Tânia Simões, from the Division of International Relations, and Antje Disterheft, researcher from CENSE - Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research, and attended by dedicated faculty, non-teaching staff, and students committed to environmental causes, the FCT NOVA Eco-Schools Council was established, taking an important step towards a more sustainable campus.

The Council will be responsible for proposing a set of sustainable actions and practices. One of the main outcomes of the meeting was the drafting of an activity plan, which envisions the involvement of the entire academic community in initiatives such as promoting recycling and proper waste management, reducing energy and water consumption, encouraging sustainable mobility, and raising awareness about environmental issues. The ultimate goal is to reduce the ecological footprint of FCT NOVA and its respective stakeholders.

The academic community will be kept informed about the initiatives, progress, and results achieved throughout the project. Through the active involvement of all members of the academic community, it is believed that FCT NOVA can become an example of good environmental practices and sustainability, inspiring other institutions to follow the same path.
