On 4 July, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Hefei, China, between NOVA FCT, the Hefei Institutes of Physical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (HFIPS-CAS), and the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC). This agreement sets the stage for a collaborative laboratory focused on flexible electronics between China and Europe.
José Júlio Alferes, dean of NOVA FCT, along with professors and researchers Rodrigo Martins and Elvira Fortunato from the Department of Materials Science, were present to support this partnership. Martins and Fortunato are also the coordinator and sub-coordinator of CENIMAT/i3N, respectively.
During the ceremony, Rodrigo Martins and Elvira Fortunato received honors from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Martins was awarded the title of Distinguished Scientist by the PIFI (President International Fellow Initiative) of the CAS, a prestigious honor given to only 5000 scientists globally since 2009 for exceptional achievements in science and technology. Fortunato was appointed Honorary Professor by the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS-CAS), a research base within CAS.
