It was with a musical session provided by anTUNiA that the new international students were welcomed on 6 September to begin their academic adventure at NOVA FCT. This semester the School is welcoming 300 students, a 50 per cent increase on the previous year.
Among the incoming students, from 48 countries around the world, is Konrad Stefaniak. He is 23 years old and comes from Poland to study chemistry at NOVA FCT. ‘I chose this School because of the good programmes in this area and I feel I'm going to study a lot and learn a lot,’ he explained.
However, the sun and the beach continue to be the main motivators for most of the students who chose to come and study at the Caparica Campus. ‘I chose to come to NOVA FCT because of the city, in particular because of the good weather and the proximity to the beach,’ smiles 21-year-old Sofie Blanckaert from Belgium, who will be studying Environmental Engineering at NOVA FCT for the next few months.
The students have been taking part in the integration activities organised by the Students' Association. ‘It's been a lot of fun and a good way to make friends,’ says Giovanni Del Debbio, a 23-year-old Italian studying chemistry.
At the welcoming ceremony for exchange students, the students were introduced to the services of the Library and the Psychological and Vocational Support Office. The ceremony was attended by the Dean of NOVA FCT, José Júlio Alferes, the Vice Dean for the Pedagogical Council and Coordinator of the Erasmus Programme, Carla Quintão, and the President of the Students' Association, Margarida Marques.
