The Department of Materials Science (DCM) celebrated its 40th anniversary on the 24th of June. Professor Jean Etourneau, from the University of Bordeaux, and Dr. Michael Popall, Director of the Fraunhofer ISC International attended the celebrations.
Last June 24th, the 35th anniversary of the Physics and Materials Engineering Course was held.
Today stem the commemorative sections of the Course of Physical Engineering and Materials. The FCT NOVA invites all the interested to participate.
The "Prize for Best Dissertation in Structures", awarded by the Section of Structures of the Department of Civil Engineering, aims to encourage the quality of Master's dissertations in structures presented in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) and to promote its public recognition.
Between 11th and 12th June the Surf National University Championship was held in the beach Ribeira D`Ilhas in Ericeira.
In a ceremony held on June 9th at the Belém Palace, the Portuguese President nominated the members of the three Councils of the Orders, including the Ancient Military Orders Council, the National Orders Council and the Civil Merit Orders Council, having Prof. E. Fortunato sworn as member of the National Orders Council.
FCT NOVA has signed a protocol with the Association "Gap Year Portugal" which enables that in the next academic year the "Program Educational Experiences" will be implemented by FCT.
During the afternoon of June 6th, the prize giving session of the first edition of the Competition "FCT NEW Challenge" took place. This competition involved 58 projects of young students from Secondary Schools, studying the Scientific-Humanistic Course of Science and Technology Secondary Education, coordinated by their respective teachers.
Last 29 and 30 May 2016, the University National Championship of Climbing and Speeds was held, in which the FCT NOVA students António Belo, Antonio Caeiro, Bruno Duarte, David Coutinho, João Afonso and José Pinto participated.
Professor Rodrigo Martins, Chairman of the Department of Science of Materials of FCT NOVA, has just been appointed as member of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC).
The Collaborative Santander Totta / NOVA Research Prize University of Lisbon 2015/2016 was awarded to the team of researchers Vicent Debut (Faculty of Social and Human Sciences) and Rui Silva (Faculty of Science and Technology) with the project "Singing bronze: Material sciences and acoustic engineering techniques advanced toward the preservation of the Mafra carillon bells. "
