It started operating in the academic year 2010/2011. The minimum number of credits required to obtain the Postgraduate Diploma in Food Technology and Quality is 15 ECTS.
In Portugal, the Food Industry sector stands out the most in terms of Gross Value Added Percentage and Total Employment but faces shortages of qualified labour. Therefore, it is expected that new jobs will be created in the coming years in the agro-industrial sectors, tourism, restaurant services, and related areas. Additionally, current staff in companies operating in these fields may require updated training.
The Postgraduate Course in Food Technology and Quality aims to provide specialised training suited to professional activities in the food industry and related service markets, specifically regarding:
(a) Nutritional quality;
(b) Technological processes;
(c) Agro-food industries.
Graduates will be able to perform activities related to production, quality control, and food safety in the agro-food industries, as well as provide consultancy services in Food Quality. They may also undertake specialised tasks in various sectors, including universities, polytechnic institutes, secondary schools, and industry.
Evening schedule or compact schedule (semi-daytime, Thursdays and/or Fridays), particularly designed for students who wish to continue their academic and/or professional training in specific subjects and/or in a phased manner. The 15 ECTS credits can be completed in one or both semesters of the academic year.
