Eight FCT Investigator positions awarded to scientists at the Chemistry Departme

Eight programme-contracts have been awarded to researchers at the Chemistry Department, in the scope of the 2015 FCT Investigator Programme: Alexandre Paiva, Cristina González, Fábio Fernandes, Filipa Marcelo, Hugo Santos, Joana Lia Ferreira, Maria Filomena Freitas e Patrícia Reis.

The FCT Investigator Programme is centered on the researcher and his/her research project, creating conditions for the establishment of scientific leaders, by providing 5-year funding for the most talented and promising researchers, across all scientific areas and nationalities.
According to Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, in 2015, 1368 scientists applied for this programme, and a total of 200 researchers have been recommended for funding in all scientific areas, after two selection rounds. At the Chemistry Department, 3 researchers have been selected in Exact Sciences, 3 researchers in Engineering Technology, 1 researcher in Biological Animal Sciences and 1 researcher in Humanities.

Established in 2012, the programme supports both outstanding post-doctoral researchers who wish to make the transition to independent researcher, and already independent researchers, with a proven track record, who wish to consolidate their research skills and establish leadership in their research fields. The main evaluation criterion is scientific excellence: of the applicant’s background, career and of the research proposal.
