Student of Biomedical Engineering develops technology that helps diagnosis of op

David Melo, a finalist of FCT NOVA's Integrated Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering, is responsible for the development of the "EyeFundusScope", a device that incorporates a "portable and simple-to-use" technology that works like a photographic camera. It allows observation and identification of structures present in the ocular fundus (retina, blood vessels, optic disc).

This device has been developed under the internship project of the finalist student David Melo and has received the support of the known research center “Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS” of Porto.

This technology has as main objective to assist in the diagnosis of ophthalmological diseases, such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, which, unfortunately, are diseases that affect so many people who do not know what they actually have.
