TheAlga4Food project, coordinated by João Noronha, professor and researcher at the Department of Chemistry of FCT NOVA, was recently featured in the Spanish newspaper El País.

Alga4Food - "Algae in Gastronomy - Development of Innovative Conservation and Utilization Techniques" falls within the scope of the Operational Program MAR 2020 and aims to change dietary habits in order to include more algae, an extremely valuable food resource nutritionally and environmentally, and still little publicized.

"Agriculture can no longer feed 7 billion people," Noronha told El País newspaper. "Fish resources are also running low, and many species are in danger of extinction. The future food of mankind goes through the use of seaweed," he adds.

The team, from the Food Gastronomy Laboratory, is also preparing recipes that will be available free on the official site of the project.
