NOVA School of Science and Technology presents its path for Sustainability at International Symposium

On October 14, 2019, Joana Santos, engineer in charge of the Sustainable FCT NOVA initiative, and Joana Lia Ferreira, Professor of the NOVA School of Science and Technology's Department of Conservation and Restoration, attended the Symposium “Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Sustainability: Challenges and Experiences”, at the Benfica Cosme Damião Museum.

Joana Santos presented the Sustainable FCT NOVA. In her speech, she made a brief analysis of the School's path in terms of Sustainability, measures implemented on campus, obstacles faced, ways to overcome them and the institution's next steps to become progressively more sustainable.

Joana Lia Ferreira participated with the presentation of the project PlasCO2 - Green technologies based on CO2 for cleaning plastics in museums and heritage collections. PlasCO2 aims to develop a new green technology for cleaning materials and their conservation through the use of CO2 in the long term preservation of cultural heritage.

The main objective of the Symposium was to promote a debate on the growing challenges facing the conservation of cultural heritage in the active search for ecologically sound and economically viable solutions.

This symposium was an initiative of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, in collaboration with Sustainability in Conservation and Sustainability in Conservation_Portugal.
