spin off AquaInSilico

The NOVA School of Science and Technology ( FCT NOVA) strongly promotes the transfer of Technology, providing the creation of companies and investment in solutions developed from research. AquaInSilico is the most recent spin-off of these results, created in partnership with Frontier IP, a company specialized in the commercialization of university intellectual property.

AquaInSilico was established from the work of a team from the Biochemical Engineering (Bioeng) research group at UCIBIO, from the Department of Chemistry, which developed an IT solution to optimize wastewater treatment management in various sectors. These sophisticated algorithms, based on deep biological and chemical knowledge, are able to perceive and predict problems with processes. This solution allows companies, such as oil groups, breweries, cellulose, paper, steel companies, food processing, and waste recovery companies and municipal wastewater treatment plants, to adapt their treatment systems more efficiently and is expected to save up to 25 percent of their operating costs.

AquaInSilico is the third launch of Frontier IP in Portugal with FCT NOVA. The team that includes Jorge Santos, Mariana Matos and Maria Ascensão Reis from FCT NOVA, developed several research projects in environmental and industrial bioengineering in collaboration with several participants from the world industry.
