On May 12, 20 computers arrived at the Caparica campus to be reconditioned and prepared to deliver to underprivileged children. Delivery of another 125 to be refurbished is scheduled to arrive on May 19.

These computers, donated by companies and private donors, were delivered to the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) under the Project "O Futuro Está On !", an initiative that aims to raise computers for deprived children in the municipality of Almada and to which the School has joined.

André Damas Mora, professor and researcher in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is coordinating the work of the School's team, which includes the participation of the General Support Division and the Technical Support Division.

“We were more than happy to associate with this project, especially at this time of the pandemic. With our work, we are ensuring that more children are able to access distance education and all its benefits,” explain André Damas Mora.

"O Futuro Está On !"  was promoted by the Novo Mundo Association; the Brigada do Mar Association and the social impact company Varina in response to the need for access to the technologies of the children of these institutions that increased with confinement. The project has already been joined by the Municipality of Almada, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Almada, the Padre Amadeu Pinto Association, and is being carried out in conjunction with the direction of the Municipal Schools Group.
