"I loved it and I have nothing but positive things to say! Making a guided tour with the expert of the area is a unique and enriching experience", explains João Rodrigues, the Integrated Master in Mechanical Engineering student who participated in one of the visits promoted under the "Saída de Campus" initiative. "The visit introduced colleagues from different departments, and this interaction resulted in a meeting from which a genuinely interesting Master's dissertation topic can be born!" he adds.
With these results, we go off campus again to discover the impact of our research in society. Enjoy the last tours under the "Saída de Campus" initiative, which promise lots of fun and knowledge.
On July 2, the Department of Applied Social Sciences invites us for a walk that intends to show the weight of science and technology in the construction of the city of Lisbon as a modern and European eighteenth-century capital. The tour starts in the Amoreiras area (former textile industry zone and where Lisbon's first water reservoir is located) and ends in Avenida 24 de Julho (one of the most relevant Portuguese engineering works of the late 19th century). On July 6, the Department of Civil Engineering suggests we get to know the work of rehabilitation and transformation of the former Santa Joana Convent into a hotel unit, with 370 rooms. A unique site that demands numerous solutions for rehabilitation and new construction within a solo project, that will definitely mark the urban landscape of the Lisbon area. The last visit will take place on 13 July. At the invitation of the Department of Computer Science we will be able to see the space where the IAT - Institute of Art and Technology will be born, find out what is planned for that place and what is the intervention of FCT NOVA in the future center of excellence of art and technology. These field trips are specially addressed to the FCT NOVA community, with limited availability. To sign up just access the link indicated in the activity preferred.
"Saídas de Campus" is a Dean's Office project that aims to create synergies between the various departments, disseminate their areas of knowledge and encourage socializing moments. The visits were suspended because of the conditions inherent to the pandemic.
