Pedro Barquinha is a member of the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation

Pedro Barquinha, professor at the Department of Materials Science and researcher at Cenimat, has been nominated for the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CNCTI).

The current composition of this body is intended to enhance its scientific and geographic diversity, as published in the Official Journal of Portuguese Republic on 11 July.

The CNCTI is a consultative body of the Government, working in close collaboration with the Minister of Economy and Sea, António Costa Silva, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, aiming to developing, strengthening and sustaining the national scientific and technological system, ensuring scientific advice and fostering the transversal and interministerial dialogue of science, technology and innovation policies.

Presided by José Manuel Mendonça, Professor at the Department of Engineering and Industrial Management of the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University and Chairman of the Board of Directors of INESC TEC, the CNCTI also includes the presidents of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the National Innovation Agency (ANI) and the Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (IAPMEI).

The Council is also composed of 20 individuals of recognised merit in different areas of knowledge and economy, including academic, scientific and business leaders with a wide institutional and territorial diversity.

The first plenary meeting, since the partial change in the composition of CNCTI, took place on 13 July.
