Presentation session of the new Ocean Studies Degree | 16th November

10-11-2023

On November the 16th, at 9:30 am, NOVA's Rectory will host the presentation of the Ocean Studies degree, expected to start in the next academic year, 2024.

This new interdisciplinary and innovative programme is the result of a partnership between five schools at NOVA University Lisbon - the NOVA School of Law, Nova SBE, NOVA FCT, NOVA FCSH and NOVA IMS - as well as the University of the Algarve and the University of Évora.

Sustainability is the common backdrop of this degree, based on five pillars that intersect in a variety of areas: Law; Economics and Management; Biology, Engineering and Technology; History, Geopolitics and Culture; Information Systems and Data. The intersection between these areas will provide a fertile environment for identifying and generating opportunities through a broad and holistic approach to the ocean.

This programme aims to foster this connection by offering a global understanding of the opportunities and threats facing the sea, contributing to shape leaders capable of developing public policies in the area of the sea and a true-blue economy, a sustainable ocean economy, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

This presentation session, which also marks NOVA's 50th anniversary and National Maritime Day, will feature the participation of the Fórum Oceano, the Oceano Azul Foundation and IPMA (Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere).
