22-09-2025

The NOVA Formula Student team, composed of students from NOVA FCT and other academic units of NOVA, achieved outstanding results both in the national competition and in Spain with the NOVA EV01, the team’s first electric vehicle.

At Formula Student Portugal, which brought together some of the best university engineering teams in the country, NOVA Formula Student was awarded:

  • 1st place Overall – Class II
  • 1st place in Engineering Design
  • 1st place in Business Plan Presentation
  • 3rd place in Cost and Manufacture

These results reflect the commitment, dedication, and technical excellence of the entire team, demonstrating the ability of NOVA FCT students to develop cutting-edge engineering projects and compete at the highest level.

In addition to its participation in Portugal, NOVA Formula Student also competed in Formula Student Spain, achieving equally remarkable results:

  • 2nd place in Business Plan Presentation (Class CV)
  • 9th place Overall – Class CV
  • 6th place in Engineering Design
  • 6th place in Cost and Manufacture

The competition events covered different areas of assessment:

  • Cost and Manufacture: report and presentation on the cost structure associated with vehicle production, including the justification of materials, manufacturing processes, and components, as well as optimization alternatives.
  • Business Plan Presentation (BPP): presentation of a business plan using the vehicle as the basis for a commercial opportunity, assessing the economic viability and strategic vision of the proposal.
  • Engineering Design: technical evaluation of the vehicle’s design decisions, covering aerodynamics, chassis, suspension, electrical systems, and powertrain, supported by calculations, simulations, and engineering analyses.

This achievement reinforces NOVA Formula Student’s commitment to representing the School and showcasing national talent in international automotive engineering competitions, further consolidating the prestige of NOVA FCT within the European engineering landscape.
