Professors Rodrigo Gonçalves and João Rocha de Almeida, from FCT-UNL’s Department of Civil Engineering awarded in the two categories of the Ferry Borges Award

Professors Rodrigo Gonçalves and João Rocha de Almeida, both belonging to FCT’s  Department of Civil Engineering, received awards  in two categories of the 8th edition of the Prize Ferry Borges, established by the Portuguese Association of Structural Engineering, in collaboration with the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering and the Order of Engineers.

The awards were given for work concluded  in the field of Structural Engineering, published between 2010 and 2012. In the A category (best paper published in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish), the prize was given  to the article "The large displacement and finite rotation thin-walled beam formulation including cross-section deformation "by Rodrigo Gonçalves, Manuel Ritto-Correa and Dinar Camotim, published in the journal Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. An Honorable Mention was also awarded by the article "The geometrically exact approach to lateral-torsional buckling of thin-walled beams with deformable cross-section", by Rodrigo Gonçalves, published in the journal Computers & Structures. In the B category (best paper published in the Journal Portuguese Structural Engineering),  the prize was given to the article "A discrete particle model for analysis of fracture in concrete", by Nuno Azevedo, José Vieira de Lemos and João Rocha de Almeida.

The awards ceremony took place last 26 November at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering.
