European Maritime Day: For an ocean without plastics | April 20th

On the 20th of April, NOVA School of Science and Technology celebrates the European Maritime Day with the event “For an ocean without plastics”, organized within the scope of the Portuguese Pact for Plastics.

At 2:30 pm, in the Library Auditorium, the session “Portuguese Pact for Plastics Masterclass” will take place, where will be presented the objectives of the initiative, the progress achieved and the way in which this collaboration is enabling the acceleration of the transition to a circular economy.

Between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, it is possible to visit the exhibition of projects by the MARE NOVA research center and the Portuguese Marine Waste Association (APLM) in favor of a Plastic-free Sea in the Preguiçódromo of the Library.

The organization of the event is the responsibility of the Smart Waste Portugal Association / Portuguese Pact for Plastics, MARE NOVA – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences / Environmental Science and Engineering Department / FCT NOVA, and the Portuguese Marine Waste Association.

The Portuguese Plastics Pact is a collaborative initiative that unites various actors in the national plastic value chain with a collective vision – the creation of a circular economy for plastics in Portugal, where they never become waste or pollution. It is headed by the Smart Waste Portugal Association and belongs to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's International Network of Plastics Pacts, Portugal. This initiative has the High Sponsorship of His Excellency the President of the Republic and the institutional support of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition and the Ministry of the Sea.
